When the estimator came, he said we could get used boxes from the warehouse for free. Because it wasn’t the most convenient part of town and we didn’t have a truck or big car, we ended up focusing on wardrobe and dish packs and made a couple trips. The moving van company’s wardrobe boxes are great, even used because you can just transfer clothes from the rack and then load the bottom of the box with things like shoes and belts. I’m not sure all moving van companies would offer used boxes for free but it would be worth asking. They even gave us used packing paper that was uncrinkled and stacked.

Another tip for obtaining used professional moving boxes is to watch for new neighbors moving in as you are preparing to move out or ask your realtor if any of their buyers might be giving or selling used boxes. We gave away lots of very good used boxes and paper after each of our moves.

You’re able to pack way more that way, which can be extremely beneficial if you’re limited on boxes!
